Spend a week with Neal (and Annie) immersed in self-exploration
Join fellow travelers for a series of inner critic/spiritual sessions, sprinkled with a couple of writing sessions led by Annie and Neal, and for those who wish, 12-step meetings, plus yoga and meditation daily with Amanda Freed, and a little kirtan with Jai Uttal.
We complain to rid ourselves of the complaint.
Practicalities (not so fine print)
Below you'll be picking a room type. They're listed and described on the Accommodations page here with even more information on the Blue Spirit site here. The rate in the form below includes the room, all meals, all speaker and yoga fees, or just about everything you'll need except a tip for the service personnel, which will be levied by Blue Spirit when you check in. I think it's $80 and can be adjusted up or down by you. But before registering, please read through the rest of this.
NOTE: IF YOUR FIRST CHOICE OF ROOM TYPE IS ONLY AVAILABLE AS A SINGLE AND YOU NEED A DOUBLE, OR A DOUBLE AND YOU NEED A SINGLE, GO AHEAD AND REGISTER FOR THE WRONG NUMBER, AND SEND ME AN EMAIL. I WILL SWITCH IT FOR YOU AND CHARGE THE CORRECT AMOUNT.
- Flights and transfers are not included, and you need to make those reservations -- after you've received a confirmation that your registration has gone through. For a fee (about $70 per person each way) Blue Spirit will arrange a shuttle transfer between the Liberia, Costa Rica (not San Juan) airport and the resort, on both Saturdays, coming and going. It's about a two-and-a-half hour ride. Or you can rent a car in Liberia.
- Check-in is after 4 p.m. on July 26. Check-out is before 10 a.m. on August 2. We will hold our first session the evening of July 26 after dinner, but it will probably be pretty light since people will be tired, and some may still be arriving. We'll start in whole-hog on Sunday morning.
- All meals are included (mostly vegan, fish three times, kitchen will adjust to your needs).
- If you bring the kiddies, you'll need to figure out supervision; activities abound onsite and offsite, but the resort does not provide programs for children. The resort does provide babysitter services for a fee; contact [email protected] for more information.
- If your first choice of room type isn't available at all, please go ahead and put down a deposit for an acceptable substitute. Afterward you can email me ([email protected]) and I'll try to find another such room for you if and when I can open up an expanded room block.
- The $500 per room deposit is refundable until December 31, 2024. (I'm at risk for all the rooms.) If you pay it all in advance, I'll refund all but the $500 until April 27. After April 27 (the final date for paying the full amount) I'm not likely to refund any of it. The policy is no refunds after April 27. To sum up: Your $500 deposit is at risk after December 24. The balance if you pay in advance is at no risk until April 27.
- You agree to abide by Blue Spirit's Covid requirements, which may change at any time and are available on their website. Do what you wish, but know that Annie and I hold traditional views of public health and vaccines -- we love the CDC more than any other government agency -- and would rather our views were honored.
- If I were you, I'd spend some time on Blue Spirit's website anyway. Most of what you're wondering is available there. Plus the scenery's quite lovely.
- Yoga mats and other equipment are all provided. No need to pack them. Oddly, beach towels aren't provided, so you probably want to bring one or two. The only dress rules are no bathing suits or bare feet in dining areas.
- Blue Spirit has a longevity center that is promoted onsite. Our holding the retreat at Blue Spirit does not imply any endorsement by Annie and me of the longevity center's programs.
- Since the resort has a pretty strong no-refund policy that puts me at risk, you might consider buying the purchase protection offered by a third party I have no control over.
